Shelf Love

Listener Contributions

Be on Shelf Love!

There are currently 2 segments that are open for listener submissions. I will consider your submissions of audio files for inclusion in a future episode!

(There are also lots of requests for recommendations and other ways to contribute your words and ideas on social media, so make sure you’re following Shelf Love on Twitter or Instagram.)

Write This Book

In this segment, you pitch a book you’d really like to read. The idea is you want someone to get on writing it ASAP, or at least you want the power of the crowd to let you know about an existing book that fits the bill.

Use details! It’s OK to mention tropes, but make sure you’re describing more specific details about what you want to read and what you want to feel. Name the characters! Give specific locations! Describe a pivotal scene or two. Set the scene. Yada yada…Make some writer somewhere INSPIRED!

Length: Under 4 minutes

Modern Romance Canon Nominations

What romance novel do you think should be part of the modern romance novel canon? Nominate a book and explain why it should be canon! (What is “the modern romance canon” you ask? Who the heck knows! It’s up to you. WE are the deciders here, friends.)

Length: Under 4 minutes

Structure

Start by introducing yourself, like "Hi, I'm [your name/Romancelandia nickname] and I’d like someone to Write This Book:…" / “Hi, I'm [your name/Romancelandia nickname] and I’d like to nominate [book name by author name] for the modern romance canon…”

Mentioning “Shelf Lovelies” at some point is heavily encouraged.

Tech Tips/Specs

Use an audio recording tool like Garageband, Audacity (free for any operating system) on your computer, or a recorder on your phone. For the best quality, I’d suggest recording in a quiet space that isn’t echoey, and using headphones with a dangling microphone. You can also speak directly into your computer/phone microphone.

Email your MP3 file to [email protected]. You can include a 1-sentence bio (including the best place to find you online) that I’ll read to introduce your audio clip.
